Yesterday I spent some time with Acer Product Manager Ray Sawall and Business Manager Irene Chan who got me some hands-on time with the hot new 14” dual touchscreen ICONIA.  I was also really impressed by the industrial design of the massive 18.4” Aspire 8950G, and the bafflingly thin Revo desktop that sports a docking multi-touch remote/keyboard.  I’m thinking that little guy might be my next Media Center PC when it hits the market.

HP MediaSmart Server to retire

You may have seen some blogs posts about HP’s decision announcing the retirement of their MediaSmart Server line, which includes Windows Home Server. As such, HP has told us they do not plan to provide a platform for Windows Home Server code name “Vail”. HP has told us they will continue to sell the existing version of MediaSmart Server through the end of the calendar year 2010 and will honor service and support agreements.

This news is in no way related to recent announcements about feature changes in Windows Home Server “Vail.”

Gateway lifts the curtain on its sleek new ZX One All-In-One

Acer kept this week’s PC news rolling with the introduction of the sharp-looking Gateway ZX One all-in-one.  It’s got a look that’s pretty different than most AIO’s; it’s trimmed with a glossy bezel and chrome, and it has an elegantly curved bottom edge that’s backlit.

Windows 7 Boosts Customer Satisfaction Scores for PC Makers

Gregg Keizer over at Computerworld today posted an article about the results of the annual satisfaction survey conducted by American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). In the article, Windows 7 is credited for boosting customer satisfaction scores for PC makers such as HP, Dell, and Acer. According to the survey, customers perceive the quality of PCs as better because they are easier to use – courtesy of Windows 7.
