Updates: More hardware-specific updates on the way

Yesterday we started delivering another round of hardware-specific updates to Windows Phones around the world. As I explained last week, these are being sent to specific models—not every phone—and are designed to make targeted improvements to things like battery life, call clarity, or touch responsiveness, depending on the model.

Hello everyone.  Busy week.

Updates for the Samsung Focus with the memory variant are in the final phases of testing. Here’s what to expect when they become available. You’ll receive two back-to-back update notifications. The first is for the 7008 update. Once installed, you can then immediately update to 7392 (which will also include the 7390 “copy and paste” update).

Update progress for AT&T Windows Phones

I’m happy to report that two Windows Phones sold by AT&T are a big step closer to getting updates.

The LG Quantum and Samsung Focus are now scheduling both the February update and the March “copy and paste” update. We’ve refreshed Where’s my phone update? to reflect the status changes to these models. We’re now working hard to expedite the delivery of these updates to you.

I know many of you are waiting eagerly for news about the Samsung Focus, LG Quantum, and HTC Surround. As we’ve noted on Where’s my phone update?, these phones are expected to finish update testing in early April.

We're eager to share progress. But these tests are important, and they're just not quite done. I expect to have more to say soon—so please stay tuned.

Acer drops new AMD-powered Aspire One netbooks

Acer is probably best known for being one of the players responsible for sparking the netbook craze with the launch of their immensely popular Acer Aspire One. Today, they’re refreshing that line with two new AMD-powered netbooks, the 11.6” Acer Aspire One AO721 and the 10.1” Acer Aspire One AO521.

There is some interesting discussion happening today regarding netbook sales, namely that new devices may be negatively impacting sales and growth.

Paul Thurrott has done a nice job of separating hype from reality. He references IDC’s forecast that 45.6 million mininotebooks (aka netbooks) will be sold in 2011 and 60.3 million units in 2013.

T-Mobile to sell Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with Mobile Broadband

Today at CTIA Wireless 2010, T-Mobile is announcing they will begin selling the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook with T-Mobile webConnect, powered by Windows 7 and built-in mobile broadband for T-Mobile’s 3G network. The Mini 10 is a 10” netbook that comes with Windows 7 Starter, an Intel Atom N450 processor, weighs just 3 pounds, and has an integrated 6-cell battery for up to 8 hours of continuous usage.
