Last week in New York, ASUS unveiled the ZENBOOK ultra-portable PC. The ZENBOOK represents collaboration between ASUS and Intel on a category of stylish and thin PCs called Ultrabooks introduced by Intel.
Acer’s been kind of quiet recently, but they showed up with a bang today with the introduction of the new Gateway ID and NV Series laptops, all available starting today at very reasonable prices.
Yesterday I spent some time with Acer Product Manager Ray Sawall and Business Manager Irene Chan who got me some hands-on time with the hot new 14” dual touchscreen ICONIA. I was also really impressed by the industrial design of the massive 18.4” Aspire 8950G, and the bafflingly thin Revo desktop that sports a docking multi-touch remote/keyboard. I’m thinking that little guy might be my next Media Center PC when it hits the market.
There is some interesting discussion happening today regarding netbook sales, namely that new devices may be negatively impacting sales and growth.
Paul Thurrott has done a nice job of separating hype from reality. He references IDC’s forecast that 45.6 million mininotebooks (aka netbooks) will be sold in 2011 and 60.3 million units in 2013.
