Amy Windsor: Parent’s Care About Tech #CES

Administrator's picture

With the overwhelming number of technology options out there, it is hard to know what will make one’s life more efficient, more fun and less stressful. Being a parent of 3 active boys, Amy Windsor has little time for anything that doesn’t meet at least one of those criteria. So, when she jumped onto the CES floor this week as part of our Windows Champions program, she was doing it with one focus: what do parents actually need and use?

As you know, Amy Windsor of the blog The Bitchin’ Wives Club is joining us this week for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas. The show which announces over 20,000 new products each year is a great chance for parents to learn about new technologies, new tools and new tactics for being better parents.

My Mom would freak out if I called her old online. Luckily, I don’t think of her as being old at all. She runs her own business (an upscale dog kennel) in Maine, has a smart phone and is constantly staying connected with us through any medium – online or not. The thing is no matter how cool or hip parents are, its often an added complication for them to stay on top of online and digital trends. That’s why we are here to help. J

Tech Tuesday Live Twitter Chat: STEMtember and PCs for Students, Gamers and Tech Enthusiasts

Administrator's picture

We like to talk about a lot of different things during our Tech Tuesday Live Twitter Chats and this week we are packaging together some really cool content. It all started with a conversation with the Microsoft Citizenship Team (@msftcitizenship) about their cool initiative called STEMtember. For those of you who don’t know, STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education which is critical to prepare the job seekers of the future. Did you know that in the United States, the U.S.

Tools of the Trade: What’s in your gear bag?

Administrator's picture

Over at the "Next at Microsoft” Blog, my buddy Steve Clayton wrote up a short piece on what I carry in my gear bag as part of his “Tools of the Trade” series.  As you can see from this shot of my kit, it’s a lot of stuff – usually one or more laptops, headphones, camera, food, etc.  I try my best to travel light, but with my job, it’s pretty hard to do.

Viva Las Vegas – Team IE @ MIX11

Vegas baby! That’s right – MIX11 is almost here, and team IE will be on the ground spreading the news of Internet Explorer 9 and giving away a few things as well. Keeping up with us will be easy – just follow @IE on Twitter to get the cues and the clues throughout the week.

If you’re attending MIX11 next week and saw any of our coverage from SXSW last month, you already know the drill. And if you didn’t – we have more in store at MIX11!

Live at CES 2011: The mad geniuses at ORIGIN show the world what’s next in power gaming

Administrator's picture

Saturday afternoon had a shoot that I was really looking forward to all week – ORIGIN.  If you haven’t heard of them, ORIGIN makes some of the world’s most powerful gaming PCs, all custom designed & hand-built.  My first experience with ORIGIN came when I picked up the massive, blow-you-out-of-your-socks-fast EON 18 gaming laptop (which I reviewed on

Live at CES 2011: A cozy fireside chat with the HP Pavilion dm1 and ENVY 17 3D

After 3 days on the show floor in Vegas, it’s nice to sneak away for a little peace and quiet.  Darren Gladstone, HP’s Blogger-in-Chief, agreed with me, so we camped out in one of the Microsoft booth meeting rooms to talk about HP’s brand new, AMD Fusion powered Pavilion dm1, and the ultra-premium HP ENVY 3D.

Live at CES 2011: Geeking out on the show’s new PCs with Channel 9

Administrator's picture

Yesterday I walked through the booth with my buddy Larry Larsen from Microsoft’s Channel 9 so I could show him some of my favorite’s from the show.  If you caught my roundup video with Jessica Corbin you’ll find several of these PCs familiar, but Larry and I get more technical here, so it’s a goo

Live at CES 2011: Acer’s new dual touchscreen ICONIA, Revo mini desktop, and Aspire entertainment PC

Administrator's picture

Yesterday I spent some time with Acer Product Manager Ray Sawall and Business Manager Irene Chan who got me some hands-on time with the hot new 14” dual touchscreen ICONIA.  I was also really impressed by the industrial design of the massive 18.4” Aspire 8950G, and the bafflingly thin Revo desktop that sports a docking multi-touch remote/keyboard.  I’m thinking that little guy might be my next Media Center PC when it hits the market.
